Protect your feet when exercising.
Your feet are one of the important parts of your body and yet many people ignore their feet completely. If you
are overweight then it is your feet which are holding you up. Your feet deserve to be pampered and you need to know
how to look after them when exercising.
You might think it is only a little exercise and wear really old footwear which neither protects nor helps your
feet. You need to invest in good footwear which is exactly right for the type of exercise you are going to be
doing. Go to a store where the people understand the differences in the trainers and shoes they are selling. Ask
plenty of questions before you pay any dollars. It is too easy to decide to buy a pair of trainers because they are
the ones everybody else is wearing and it is a brand you know and trust.
If you are not sure what type of trainers then aim for cross trainers as they will be suitable for walking,
running and also working out at the gym. Don’t buy on brand name without trying them on. One great brand name only
makes their trainers for a wider foot and if you have a narrow foot then your foot will move inside the trainer and
you will end up with lots of blisters. Another brand name specialises in trainers for a narrow foot, so don’t
consider them if you have a wide foot. Two great products but they are not suitable for everybody.
The most important feature is comfort, they should not rub anywhere and you shouldn’t feel any discomfort with
them. Do not buy thinking they will stretch, like you might with normal shoes. There is nothing worse than spending
good money on a pair of shoes to find after 3/4 miles you get blisters the size of saucers. Blisters happen when
your shoes rub. You can always protect your foot with petroleum jelly and this will be a great barrier and stop the
blisters.
